Calling Hunter CEOs – register now for Newcastle CEO Sleepout
With only five weeks to go, Denise Lucas, Executive Officer of St Vincent de Paul Society NSW’s Maitland/Newcastle Central Council, is calling on Hunter CEOs to register for Newcastle’s Vinnies CEO Sleepout. On 22 June CEOs will be sleeping outside in the cold raising funds for men, women and children experiencing homelessness in NSW.
“These CEOs understand that without donations from the public, charities like Vinnies could not continue delivering much-needed services to those people at risk in the community,” says Ms Lucas.
“The lack of affordable housing has resulted in far more people falling through the cracks and has increased the demand for our services. Homelessness doesn’t have a postcode. It can happen to anyone anywhere–poor health, the loss of a job, family breakdown plus a host of contributing factors can mean that there is no longer enough money to pay escalating rents and bills, and feed a family.”
The Newcastle Knights’ four Mata’utia brothers are supporting the event, to be held at the McDonald Jones Stadium. Karen Soper, Manager of the Matthew Talbot Homeless Centre, and Peter Mata’utia met on Monday at the Wickham Centre to register the four Newcastle Knights players. The Mata’utia Brothers Foundation’s motto is Stronger Together and they are committed to giving back to the Newcastle community.
All money raised helps Vinnies assist homeless people in the Hunter, providing services, clothing and assistance to those who are in need.
