On Wednesday 11 May, the Society celebrated volunteers and members by putting on a Thank You event at St Clare’s College. This provided an opportunity for our volunteers and members in Canberra to get together and be acknowledged for their contribution to the work of the Society. Over 85 people attended the event this year and we saw volunteers and members represented from all areas across the Society. It was a chance to mingle, share stories, catch up with those that we don't see on a regular basis and meet new people who share the passion for volunteering.

Ariana Strmota, a former St Clare’s student and volunteer with our youth program, entertained all with her musical talent. There was delicious finger food provided and served by Petra Weisner and the students from St Clare's College.  Hawker College once gain provided our desserts and did not disappoint - a lovely way to top off the evening!

In her role of MC for the evening, Sarah Clifton, Director of Youth and Young Adults, shared a heart-warming story of a man she met who used to participate in the kids camps. The role modelling of the volunteers had inspired him to study to becoming a youth worker. It was a great reminder of the life changing roles many of our volunteers play for so many in our community.

Society President Warwick Fulton gave an insightful speech about the importance of volunteers Vinnies across the Society and highlighted how without all this wonderful support the Society wouldn’t be able to continue to change lives every day.

The St Vincent de Paul Society Canberra/Goulburn is supported by over 2,000 members and volunteers. Without them we would not be able to do the work that we do - THANK YOU!
