Vinnies 'conference' members are volunteers of all ages who visit people in their homes or conduct interviews from our centres to assist people in need and find the most appropriate responses to their circumstances. Becoming a volunteer in this role involves being a supportive listener and may include providing food or food vouchers, clothing, furniture, budget support, assistance with utility bills or back to school costs, information and advocacy. South Australia’s conferences meet on a regular basis and work closely with St Vincent de Paul Society's Vinnies Family Centres to provide assistance. The majority of community assistance provided by Vinnies is through our valued conference members.
The St Vincent de Paul Society in SA is in the process of becoming accredited as a White Ribbon organisation, in line with our goal to end violence against women. This means we have the policies and processes in place to support staff or volunteers, and our people understand where to refer women who are suffering from domestic violence.
