What is Homework Help?
The Homework Help program supports children to complete their homework with the assistance of trained Vinnies Young Adult volunteer tutors. Our program provides a range of activities designed to promote the educational, social and emotional development of children
It is intended that it will foster positive relations and a holistic approach to continue the further development of improved self-esteem, self-worth and wellbeing. Hence the matching of tutor to child is important to assess and revise.
Who can access Homework help?
Children aged from 5 to 15 years of age from families supported by the Society are welcome to attend Homework Help.
Where does Homework Help operate?
Homework Help activities operate in different locations across NSW. The program can be run in Regional Council Vinnies Centres; Society services such as crisis accommodation, or local libraries.
Who benefits from Homework Help?
The program is designed to benefit children by modelling positive learning experiences and their parents who are seeking the best possible outcome for their children’s education.
Can I volunteer on Homework Help?
To become a Homework Help volunteer you must be 16 years of age and over and available to attend our Youth Program Training prior to commencement (please note that in some areas you need to be 18 years of age and over). Our trained and supported volunteer tutors provide positive role models and assist the children in all aspects of their homework. As this is a program is for children and young people, all Vinnies volunteers aged 18 years and older are required to complete a Working With Children Check and National Criminal History Check.
