Samaritan House

"As much as I enjoy practicing skills I'm going to use in the workplace, it's just a pleasure to see people be given chances my family never had."

Samaritan House is a 13 bed, crisis accommodation program for men aged between 18 and 65 years. The program operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and is located in the north of Canberra.  Residents are provided with individual rooms with shared showers, toilets, laundry and kitchen facilities, food, computer with internet and telephone, personal hygiene items and social support. Samaritan House requires $25 rent per night to cover expenses. Residents are also provided with case management, working from a person-centred, strengths-based focus.

Samaritan House’s main goal is to assist individuals to access longer term or permanent accommodation.

Samaritan House also has an open door policy (no referral needed) for any man who requires a hand up, by providing access to the House for tea, coffee, food, telephone and internet access, as well as information and referral support.

Requirements:
• Volunteers must be 18 years and over.
All volunteers must have a Working With Vulnerable People card (WWVP).
Additional checks may also be required, including a National Criminal History Check, and/or reference checking.
