"I've done different types of volunteering my whole life. During my time with Vinnies I started volunteering with the Compeer program. This was by far the most rewarding volunteering I've done to date and I know it enriched both mine and my buddy's lives."

Compeer is an international program for people living with a diagnosed mental illness. The aim of the program is to reduce social isolation and combat the stigma attached to mental illness. We strive to empower participants to achieve equality, self-worth, dignity and trust through the power of friendship.

Compeer matches adult volunteers with participants in one on one friendships, based on sharing similar interests and hobbies. Once matched the pair meet up on a regular basis for planned social activities. This allows an authentic friendship to develop.

Compeer works closely with local mental health services and other health professionals.
