"I volunteer with Vinnies because of the work that the Clemente program undertakes to assist and provide educational pathways for students who have had unfortunate circumstances in their lives. I believe education is imperative for social progress and that is what mainly appealed to me. I volunteer one day a week and I enjoy being able to assist the students in their educational endeavours."
Clemente provides people who have experienced disadvantage and are wanting to re-engage in education with access to tertiary level education through a partnership between Vinnies and the Australian Catholic University (ACU).
The program is free, and students are provided with all textbooks and learning materials. Volunteer in-class and off-campus mentors can provide study assistance, help with organisational skills, work presentation, and basic computing. Students with varied life experiences are encouraged to apply.
Time Frame: A few hours a week for 12 weeks
• Volunteers must be 18 years and over.
• All volunteers must have a Working With Vulnerable People card (WWVP).
• Additional checks may also be required, including a National Criminal History Check, and/or reference checking.
