Fresh Start is a program developed by St Vincent de Paul Tasmania and aims to address the important role that financial literacy plays in enabling people to dramatically improve their financial situation and ultimately their lives.

Fresh Start is a free and confidential service where our team members take the time to help those who are struggling, to make sense of their finances.

Fresh Start team members provide life skills mentoring and help participants to plan a budget and set some goals to move forward, to understand products such as bank statements, give helpful tips on saving, and advocate where necessary on behalf of the person they are assisting.

Our team members can also help with NILS loan applications and refer to other organisations where necessary.

Who can access the service?

Fresh Start is available to anyone who needs information in order to make better choices with their money. If necessary, we can refer to a Financial Counsellor.

Where is the Service located?

Fresh Start is a state wide service. Our Fresh Start team members are available in the Vinnies centres in Burnie, Devonport, Launceston and Hobart.

Who benefits from the service?

Anyone who presents to St Vincent de Paul for emergency assistance is eligible to participate in the Fresh Start program, referrals are also welcomed from other agencies. Alternatively, a phone call can be made to the nearest centre to request and appointment.
