What is the service?

Free assistance is provided to migrants and refugees who have fled war, persecution and significant injustice. This service is provided by approximately forty volunteers and one part-time paid Co-ordinator.

Specific services include:

  • housing and immigration information
  • material assistance (food, clothing, basic furniture and payment of essential service bills)
  • support for migrants released from detention
  • advocacy, financial counselling and referrals to other support agencies
  • education assistance

The service requires almost $372,000 to operate. Funding is almost entirely from community and business donations, together with some ‘emergency relief’ funding from the Federal Government.

252 Port Rd, Hindmarsh, SA (behind Sacred Heart Church). The nearest bus stop is bus stop 8 Port Road.

This office is open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 10am - 2pm.  Walk ins welcome.

Who benefits from Migrant and Refugee Centre?

In 2017/18, a total of 10,256 people were assisted. The total value of this assistance was $449,834.00

Can I volunteer for this Centre?

Volunteers are most welcome.  You only need a few hours each month to assist people in need.  You will receive an induction, be guided through our processes and be covered by our insurance.
