What is Vinnies Youth Housing Macarthur?
Vinnies Youth Housing is a semi-supported medium to long term accommodation service for young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. We have a total of 37 beds and accommodated eighty eight young people last year. Our primary role is to assist the young person to maintain a tenancy through support and education until they have developed their skills to secure independent housing or move back to family.
Who can access this service?
Our target group is single male and female young people aged 16-21years old, sole parents and nuclear families 16-24 years from all cultural backgrounds who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Single people are housed in shared accommodation.
Where is the service located?
The Service is located at Picton in the Wollondilly Local Government Area. Our houses are located in Macarthur, Camden, Wollondilly and Wingecarribee. We have nine stand alone properties, five units and one town house. Our service provides outreach to the tenants on a weekly basis where we provide individual case management to support the young people to maintain a tenancy.
What are the benefits of accessing this service?
We provide safe affordable subsidized housing for young people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless. Our program is up to two years and during this time we support the young person to develop their living skills, encourage them to engage in education and focus on returning them to their family homes if it is safe to do.
Other benefits are client’s needs are assessed individually to determine the most appropriate intervention; referrals are made for clients to external service providers that can assist in areas that will promote independence.
