What is the Bowral Youth Refuge?

Bowral Youth Refuge is a specialist homeless service for youth who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of becoming homeless. The refuge operates 24 hours a day, seven days per week and provides six beds. Staff members include a manager, caseworker and youth workers. We also have an adolescent counsellor on site. All youth who reside at the refuge are case managed with the service working towards family restoration where appropriate or longer term affordable and secure accommodation. The adolescent counsellor is based on site to work with adolescents and/or families in the Wingacarribee Local Government Area where the youth are at risk of homelessness or first time homeless. The counsellor also works very closely with High Schools in the Southern Highlands.

Who can access the Bowral Youth Refuge?

The service specifications at the refuge are for those teenagers of either gender aged between 14 and 18 years. The adolescent counsellor provides early intervention service to all teenagers aged 12 to 18 and their families.  The lower age range for the counsellor is to enable this service to work with anyone who is attending High School.

Where is the Bowral Youth Refuge located?

The Refuge is located on the edge of the Bowral CBD.

What are the benefits of accessing the service?

The Refuge provides safe and secure accommodation for youth. We work with the young people to attempt to resolve accommodation / family issues and work to providing sustainable good outcomes for the youth.  The adolescent counsellor works with the youth and their family where appropriate to mediate and advocate in an attempt to prevent homelessness occurring.

Can I volunteer to assist at the Bowral Youth Refuge?
