What is the Vinnies Lodge?

Vinnies Lodge is 11 bedroom house that offers self-catering accommodation to tertiary students aged 18 to 25 years. A Resident Assistant is in full-time residency and maintains the day-to-day operation of the Lodge. Fees are $100 per week and include a furnished bedroom, with ADSL, share kitchen, bathroom, lounge and dining rooms, and off street parking.

Who can access this service?

Full-time University of Newcastle and Newcastle TAFE students from regional areas of NSW.  Prospective students must apply, be interviewed and commit to the full academic year of residency.

Where is the service located?

The Lodge is a former Sisters of Mercy convent located at Tighes Hill. It is a two storey brick building with wide private verandahs on both floors. It is directly opposite Newcastle TAFE and on the bus route to the University of Newcastle and  Newcastle CBD, harbour and beaches.

Who benefits from Vinnies Lodge?

Students from regional NSW are accommodated in a secure, caring environment. Some residents stay for the full period of their chosen course while others come for their first year and then move on to private rental. It is a great environment for young people just moving away from home and embarking on tertiary study and independent living.

Can I volunteer for this service?

There is an Advisory Committee that is made up of St Vincent de Paul members.
