Vinnies Van Wollongong

Vinnies Van Illawarra and Shoalhaven

What is the Vinnies Van?

The Vinnies Van operates four nights per week, providing friendship, compassion and dignity to those experiencing homelessness and social isolation in the Illawarra and Shoalhaven regions. In the 2017-18 financial year, the Vinnies Van provided more than 16,500 meals and a range of essential items to support those in need. The service also helps foster connections between clients and other support services through referrals.

Who can access the Vinnies Van?

Anyone can reach out to the Vinnies Van. We provide a non-judgemental service and will not refuse assistance to anyone who approaches us. The service is provided free of charge and we encourage those who are living on the streets or in overcrowded or insecure accommodation to access the service.

What are the benefits of accessing this service?

We offer a reliable service that provides people who are experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness with a drink, snack and conversation, helping break through the barriers of loneliness and isolation that many living on the fringe of society suffer. Volunteers are able to show those in need that people do care, creating a genuine community of friends from all walks of life.

Other services include information/referral to support services and material aid (blankets and swags, toiletries, hygiene packs and the like).

Can I volunteer for the Vinnies Van?
