What is the Liverpool Night Patrol?
Liverpool Night Patrol is a homeless service operating five nights per week (Tuesday-Saturday), excluding public holidays within the Liverpool local Government Area and is a part of the Sydney Vinnies Van Services. It provides sandwiches, blankets, toiletries, hot beverages and most importantly, companionship to people experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
Who can access the van?
Anyone can approach the Liverpool Night Patrol Van when they see it out and about. We especially encourage people who are living rough or in overcrowded or insecure accommodation to access the service. This service is delivered at no charge to people who use it.
Where is the van located?
Our Liverpool Night Patrol Van currently operates in Liverpool and Sadleir. It is staffed by over 100 volunteers who provide sandwiches, companionship and referral services to people in need. You will recognise us by our white van sporting the blue St Vincent de Paul Society.
Our location and times are as follows:
Liverpool Pioneers Memorial Park- Macquarie Street, Liverpool: 8.30pm- 9.00pm
Edwin Wheeler Oval/Miller Park – Cnr Maxwells Avenue and Cartwright Ave, Sadleir: 9:15pm – 9:45pm
We operate every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, with the exception of public holidays.
What are the benefits of accessing this service?
We offer a reliable service that provides people who are experiencing homeless or at risk of homelessness with a warm drink, sandwich and conversation on a cold night, helping break through the barriers of loneliness and isolation that many living on the fringe of society suffer. Volunteers are able to show those in need that people do care, creating a genuine community of friends from all walks of life. We also can provide information for people to access services to assist them further as required.
Can I volunteer for Liverpool Night Patrol?
We are currently recruiting volunteers for Liverpool Night Patrol. There are two types of volunteer roles available, day volunteers and evening volunteers.
Come in to our base and prepare the food that the evening teams will take out. Volunteers work in small teams and shifts are approximately 1 hour in duration. Shifts will be once every four weeks on a Tuesday, Friday or Saturday.
Day volunteers are required to complete a Working With Children Clearance and National Criminal History Check and will be provided with an induction prior to commencing volunteering.
Evening volunteers or ‘Night Patrollers’ will be placed on our teams to serve on a roster every four weeks. Volunteers are expected to commit to a minimum of 12 months and complete a minimum of six shifts within that term. We currently have limited places available on a Thursday, Friday or Saturday team. Evening volunteers are required to complete training with the St Vincent de Paul Society, Working with Children Clearance and National Criminal History Check prior to commencement.
At this stage we are taking expressions of interest only and will notify you should a training date be scheduled.
