I am writing to you in support of the work of the St Vincent de Paul Society. I understand that you may be considering including a gift (Bequest) to the Society when writing or updating your Will.

I have included a gift in my Will to the St Vincent De Paul Society because I have seen firsthand the good work that the Society does to assist those people that are experiencing problems such as homelessness, domestic violence, addiction and mental illness as well as the challenges faced by refugees.

There is a variety of reasons why people find themselves in a position of disadvantage and needing a hand up, I believe that I have had a lot to be very thankful for. In my life I have a roof over my head, food to eat, and a warm bed to climb into at the end of each day so I felt that one way I could help assist the Society to continue their good work was by way of a Gift in my Will.

I first got involved with Vinnies when I was asked if I could help the Society by going out and buying some warm clothing for a woman who had come down from New Guinea to Sydney and had become ill. Then in 1982 when my husband and I moved from Sydney to the Blue Mountains, my late husband Jim went on to become Regional President for the Blue Mountains area.

I was a member of the Women’s Conference and along with other women we would do visitations to nursing homes and later on I did home visits along with Jim. I also worked in the Katoomba Vinnies store for 20 years where I was privileged to meet and assist some amazing people who just needed a helping hand. I stopped working in the store when my husband became ill and I needed to care for him, however, I still visit a lady in a nursing home twice a month that I first met many years ago through the visitations.

I am so appreciative of the fact that Vinnies is there to continue providing the support and assistance that many a person in the community needs at times throughout their lives.

I am hoping that you will join me in remembering the St Vincent De Paul Society with a gift in your Will.  Together we can help change lives not only now but for generations to come.

Yours sincerely,

Doreen Kinsella
