Disaster Recovery Assistance
National Council is responsible for co-ordinating the response of the Society in helping people affected by major disasters, whether in Australia or elsewhere.
Where a disaster occurs within Australia, the local State, Diocesan, Central or Regional Council provides as much assistance as possible, as soon as possible, from its own resources. The national role is to harness the resources of the other states and territories.
Where a disaster occurs in other countries, the Australian response is handled through National Council, who liaise with the National Council of the country affected. If the Society does not have a National Council in the affected country, liaison may be appropriate with another body, for example the local Bishops’ Conference or International Council General.
