There are 45,813 women in Australia facing homelessness. Vinnies Winter Appeal. Rethink Homelessness.

Vinnies makes a real difference to the lives of the women we support.

45,813 women facing homelessness in Australia is an alarming figure. But what's more alarming is the fact that 59% of Australians seeking help from homelessness services are actually women. That’s a significantly higher rate than the UK’s 26% and the USA’s 38%.

By donating to Vinnies, you are helping us make a real and remarkable difference to the lives of the women we assist.

“I had a normal life. All it took was a couple of things to go wrong before I found myself on the streets.”
Mary

At 62, Mary was made redundant from her job after working there tirelessly for more than 20 years. At the same time, she was evicted from the home she had lived in for 12 years.

Mary faced the devastating reality of being homeless. That’s when she mustered the strength to turn to Vinnies for help.

Vinnies found her a home and provided furniture assistance, letting Mary regain confidence and improve her sense of self-worth.

“I DON’T HAVE A LOT OF FAMILY. I DON’T HAVE A LOT OF OPTIONS. I DIDN’T WANT TO BE LEFT OUT IN THE COLD, ESPECIALLY WITH A CHILD.”
Claire

At 19, Claire found herself trapped in an abusive relationship. Soon after, she found out she was pregnant.

Claire was forced to flee. She was homeless, and with her family far away she was alone. After seeking refuge on a friend’s couch, Claire bravely reached out to Vinnies, who found her and her baby daughter a home, along with furniture and clothing for her baby daughter.

This shelter and security, combined with the emotional support has helped Claire feel in control of her life, regaining the confidence and ambition she once had.

“THERE WAS SO MUCH VIOLENCE. IT GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I FELT LIKE I WOULD DIE IF I STAYED.”
Sarah

Not long ago, Sarah found herself trapped in an abusive relationship. Determined to give her children a better life, she got up in the middle of the night and drove away from everything.

After seeking refuge in her car, Sarah reached out to Vinnies, who found her a home, along with food and school supplies for her kids.

Vinnies have helped Sarah break the cycle of abuse, while transforming her into an ambitious mother, who is currently studying at university and volunteering at her son’s school.
