Glossary

Auxiliaries: Helpers who may be invited to conference meetings. Although not members of a conference, help the Society by direct participation in the work, or by regular contributions.

Bailly: An adult who guides the younger conference members in their Conference work. This person does not run the conference but is a voice of guidance.
 
Conference: A group of people who meet on a regular basis to live out the Spirituality of the St Vincent de Paul Society and carry out the mission. They are often in Parishes and Schools.

Council: Councils are instituted by the International Council General on the recommendation of the national council. They are formed to provide a link between conferences and councils in a city, district, diocese or state.

Diocese: The district or churches under the jurisdiction of a bishop.

Mini-Vinnies: A St Vincent de Paul Society group in a primary school.

Retreat: A time where conference members are invited to attend to discuss their conference work, learn more about the Society and have the opportunity to deepen their Vincentian Spirituality.

Special Works: Specialised works of the St Vincent de Paul Society that meet a particular need in an area.

State Youth Team: A team made up of Youth Representatives and in some States Youth Coordinators that is an advisory body to the State Council of the St Vincent de Paul Society NSW/ACT. They advise on youth issues and look after youth activities throughout NSW/ACT.

The Rule: The constitution of the St Vincent de Paul Society.

Youth Representative: A volunteer member of the St Vincent de Paul Society appointed by the relevant President to represent youth on the relevant council.

Youth Coordinator: An employed member of the St Vincent de Paul Society who coordinates youth and young adult activities.
