The St Vincent de Paul Society believes education is the key to breaking the poverty cycle and provides vital Special Works in the community that ensure disadvantaged children have the opportunity to achieve an education and to learn in a caring and encouraging environment.
The School Support Program directly assists young people with school and education related expenses including uniforms, books, stationery, learning resources and excursion and school fees. The program’s mission is to assist young people in improving their learning skills and self esteem by providing them with the necessary tools to learn.
St Vincent de Paul Society conference members work closely with individuals and families who are struggling – they provide care and support to people in need. While undertaking this work they often identify young people needing assistance with school necessities – for many of the children assisted by the program it is the first time they have had the right school uniform, or the books and equipment required to learn or had the option to attend a school excursion or outing.
