What is the StepUp Loan?

A StepUp Loan is a low interest, unsecured personal loan offered in partnership by National Australia Bank and Good Shepherd Youth and Family Service and facilitated through the Society in areas of Queensland. The StepUp Loan program provides safe and affordable credit to people who are financially disadvantaged to enable the purchase of essential goods.

Who can access these loans?

StepUp Loans are designed specifically for people living on low incomes. To be eligible, applicants must hold a current Centrelink Health Care Card or Pension Card or receive Family Tax Benefit A. In addition, they must have lived at their current address for at least three months. Documents are required to verify income, expenditure, identification and loan purpose.

Where is the service located?

The Service currently operates in the Inala / Ipswich and Gold Coast regions only.

What are the benefits of accessing this service?

Those who benefit from StepUp Loans are people living on low incomes as it enables them to borrow for a broad range of worthwhile purposes, such as buying or repairing a motor vehicle, the purchase of furniture/ white goods, medical or educational expenses.

Can I volunteer for StepUp Loans?

No, Volunteers are not needed for this service.
