The St Vincent de Paul Society in Australia belongs to a much wider Vincentian family. The International General Council (IGC) oversees an International Confederation of countries who continue the work of our French founder, the Blessed Frederic Ozanam.
The IGC is led by Singaporean, Dr Michael Thio, who was appointed as President General in 2010. The IGC meets approximately twice a year in ordinary or extraordinary Assembly. The National President of the Society in Australia has attended meeting at the IGC headquarters in France, as well as, at meetings in Dublin and Rome. The meetings are a forum for leaders of the Society to discuss the spiritual and managerial aspects of their work and learn from, and help one another via formal twinning networks. The international arm of our organisation also consults with the United Nations in its role as a Non-Governmental Organisation to the Economic and Social Council.
