Purpose, intent, and adequacy of the Disability Support Pension

A submission to the Senate Standing Committee on Community Affairs on the Disability Support Pension (DSP) system.

We propose recommendations to enhance the Disability Support Pension (DSP) system.

These include broadening eligibility criteria, improving coordination across government programs, removing certain restrictive language, abolishing the program of support requirement, reinstating the treating doctor's report in the application process, streamlining application and appeal processes, and providing a disability supplement.

We advocate for fair social security payment rates and call for an independent evaluation of recent initiatives like the Disability Gateway and Disability Employment Service Star Rating system, with input from DSP recipients.
