The National Council is instituted by the International Council General.

The members of the Council are the President and the Presidents of State Councils, the Youth Representative and the office bearers as specified in Article 20 of The Rule.

The role of the National Council is to:

  • Ensure that the basic principles and the Rule of the Society are upheld
  • Animate and Coordinate the activities of the Society in Australia
  • Keep Conferences and Councils informed of the activities of the Society both nationally and internationally through meetings, assemblies, circulars, publications and other means.
  • Represent the Society with religious and civil authorities on a national basis and particularly in the area of advocacy
  • Draw up and amend in a spirit of consultation, rules for the functioning of the Society in Australia
  • Inform the members of the International Council General of its activities through annual reports
  • Determine the boundaries of all Councils
  • Uphold the spirit of the Rule throughout all Councils and Conferences by means of access, where necessary, to all funds and other information. State Councils may be authorised to perform this function where appropriate
  • Its decisions are final and binding upon all other Councils and Conferences in Australia.
  • To ensure that the basic principles of the Society are respected. It settles authoritatively any question as to the meaning or effect of the Rule which may be submitted for consideration by any Council or Conference in Australia.
