Matthew Talbot Homeless Services
The St Vincent de Paul Society has a strong commitment to the range of issues that lead single men and women, women and children, two parent families, men with children and young men and women to become at risk of homelessness or homeless. All our services provide case-management and advocacy for each client. The Society decided in 2007 to utilize the name and credibility of Matthew Talbot Hostel to assist with fundraising for their 37 Homeless Services across NSW.
In general the Society’s services recognise that most people who experience homelessness will suffer depression and or some other form of mental illness, their physical health will deteriorate, there is high dependency on alcohol and or other drugs though the stigma and shame is higher with women than men, and nearly all will have suffered some trauma either as a child or adult or both.
• The Society has 13 services for single homeless men including the Matthew Talbot hostel and outreach services in the inner city. The hostel caters for 100 men each night and has 80 outreach beds. For more information on single mens' services, click here.
• The Society has 10 services specifically for women and children. For more information on services for women and children, Click Here
• Matthew Talbot Homeless Services also offers a range of alternative services designed to assist men and women to address issues of alcohol and other drug dependencies. For more information on these services, Click Here
• The Society is also committed to education as the key to breaking the cycle of homeless and domestic violence. A new education facility Ozanam Education Centre was opened by Prime Minster Kevin Rudd in November 2008.
