Support to Territorians affected by Cyclone Carlos
St Vincent de Paul Society NT have been working hard to support homeless and displaced people seeking shelter, bedding, food, clothing and support following the heavy rains and flooding associated with Cyclone Carlos.
CEO Sleepout
There are more than 105,000 Australians who sleep rough each night of the year. Just under half of these are women; a quarter are under the age of 18.
On Thursday 16 June 2011 in Darwin and in capital cities across Australia, CEOs and community leaders will Rise to the Challenge and experience what it is like to be homeless for a night, helping to raise awareness of the real facts of homelessness. All money raised will directly assist the ongoing provision of Vinnies' homeless services across the country.
In 2010, NT's CEO Sleepout raised $65, 804.
The ways these funds and funds raised this year will be used include:
* Ongoing provision of meals for homeless people by the SOS mobile food vans
* Purchase of white goods, appliances and furniture for the 20 units of Vincentcare Housing at the Coconut
Grove site. These furnished units support people and offer affordable transitional accommodation
* Establishing Rendu Park, a supported accommodation facility for people transitioning from rehabilitation programs back into mainstream living
