Vinnies Youth Programs
Vinnies Kids Camps consist of two recreation and respite programs run by Vinnies Youth and Young Adult volunteers. All Vinnies Youth Programs are arranged at no cost to the children, young people and volunteers involved. Camps and activities are planned and staffed by volunteers. The volunteers participate in the activities alongside with the kids and ensure that their experience is both safe and lots of fun. Our volunteers are provided with training and support. If you would like to become a volunteer please register here.
St Joseph the Carpenter Youth Program (St Joe’s)
Provides children experiencing financial or social disadvantage with experiences that other families take for granted. St Joe’s run camps and activity days all year round. Activity days aim to provide children from low-income backgrounds with an opportunity to experience recreational activities they would otherwise miss out on, such as visits to the Zoo, Questacon, or the movies.
Camps are run during every school holiday period with two camps running in January. Each camp takes months of planning, training and time to ensure that the children have a lot of fun! Activities on camp include art, sport, bushwalking, games, swimming, cooking and life skills. The camp program focuses on building the child’s self-esteem, social confidence and improving teamwork and leadership skills. For some children these camps are their only chance for a holiday during the year. Camps also offer children a chance to have a break from their home situation.
St Joe’s accepts children aged 6-12 years in the program. Referrals are to be made to the Youth and Young Adult Coordinator. The program is staffed by volunteers aged 17 years and older.
St Nicholas Young Carers Youth Program (St Nick’s)
A Young Carer is a young person who cares for a family member with an illness, disability or drug/alcohol dependency. The St Nick’s program provides Young Carers with the opportunity to take a break from their caring role, learn new skills, make friends and have fun. Activity days provide Young Carers with recreational activities that they may not otherwise access due to their caring role or financial restraints on their family. Some activities might be ice skating, rock-climbing or laser tag.
Camps are run twice a year for 5 days at a time during the school holidays. Activities on camp include swimming, outdoor adventure activities, art, games, sport, a disco and Carers Time. Carers Time focuses on building the self-esteem and resilience of the young people, while giving them an opportunity to share their situation and learn from the experience of other young people.
St Nick’s accepts Young Carers aged 9-15 years in the program. Referrals are to be made to the Youth and Young Adult Coordinator. The program is staffed by volunteers aged 21 years and older.
